We mostly focused on making the app look as "clean" as possible to make the subtitle translating process fairly straightforward, with no distractions.
Speaksubz provides a simple and intuitive way to translate subtitles. Simply upload a video (or specify a video URL), add a subtitle file and you're good to go!
There's not a lot of web apps that provide a way to translate subtitles while controlling the video playback and subtitle video-timestamps at the same time. So, we aimed to build an app that handles just that.
We solved the storage problem by using Google Cloud Storage, relational databases such as MySql couldn't satisfy our need for flexibility so we chose MongoDB.
We mostly focused on making the app look as "clean" as possible to make the subtitle translating process fairly straightforward, with no distractions.
To create Speaksubz we used a multitude of technologies, including: Google Cloud Storage, Socket.IO, Express, React and more!
React proved to be the best fit for most of our projects, so we decided to use it to build Speaksubz' client side too.
The backend is handled by Node.js, with Socket.IO and Express both providing the server-client communication. For the database management system we chose MongoDB, as its change-friendly design and flexible document schemas perfectly fit our use case. To store video files we use Google Cloud Storage.
